Did You Know… IDENTICAL TWINS Don’t Have The Same Fingerprints?
Fascinating information that we surely didn’t know about identical twins!

By Hennessy Collins
Like most of you…I always assumed that everything about identical twins is identical — including their fingerprints.
Identical twins growing in the womb share the exact same DNA, so it’s a given that they would also have the same fingerprints right? Well. Not exactly.
According to the BBC, Identical Twins do not have the same fingerprints.
WHY did this small detail decide to elude DNA and be different?
It’s because the formation of fingerprints are dependent upon both genetic and environmental factors during the fetal development stage.
Fingerprints are set between the 13th and 19th weeks of development. Things like umbilical cord length, position in the womb, blood pressure, nutrition and the rate of their fingers growing has an individual effect on the ridges, loops and whorls that make up the baby’s finger.
This is what causes a set of twins to have very different fingerprints although they look exactly alike.
